August Card Class "Back to School"

It’s back to school!  So this month we made cards consistent with the school theme—an owl librarian, a new friend, crafty ribbon and scissors.  Recipes are included with each project and the supply details are listed at the end of this post.  Thanks for stopping by!

20190817 August class cards

Card 1: Owl Librarian and Bookworm

All of the images in these cards are from the Check You Out stamp set.  The books are actually 3 separate stamps.  We used the stamparatus so that they were stacked perfectly.  For the script embossing on the granny apple green cardstock, it was brushed with granny apple green using a sponge to draw out the design.  It is called the Scripty 3D embossing folder and is turning out to be one of my new favorites.  (You will see it again on the scissors card.)

20190817 Book cards

Here is the recipe:

  • Stamp Sets: Check You Out
  • Pool Party cardstock 8 1/2 x 5 1/2"
  • Granny Apple Green cardstock 2 1/8 x 5 ½"
  • Early Espresso cardstock 2 1/4 x 3 1/2"
  • Whisper White cardstock 2 x 3 1/4"
  • Scripty 3D embossing folder
  • Ink Pads: Granny Apple Green, Coastal Cabana, Soft Suede, Calypso Coral
  • Stamparatus
  • Stamping sponge

Card 2: Walrus Window

I just loved this window card and got the idea from a card that I received from Cindy Baughman my sweet friend and SUI leader.  You can check out her design using the On To Adventure stamp set on her blog post dated July 18, 2019 (stampedwithaloha.com).  The window was cut using one of the larger labels from the Stitched Nested Label Dies.  (Note: You can purchase these dies on their own or as a bundle with the Free as a Bird Stamp Set for a 10% discount.)  Then coordinating sentiments were stamped on each side of the Mango Melody cardstock.  I used the We’ll Walrus Be Friends set which has coordinating messages.  Then I chose walrus images to stamp for the front and inside.  I punched the images out using the 2” circle punch.  Then punched 2 circles of 2 ¼” from black cardstock to adhere them to.  Then I assembled the card and you can see what it looks like from the front and inside.  Here are two of many options.  I just love the walrus with the seagull on his head!  For the epoxy heart, it was clear, but we colored it using a Blends Cherry Cobbler Dark marker.

Card 3: Ribbons

Here is a fun stack of ribbons from the It Starts with Art stamp set.  The sentiment is from this set too.  The coordinating designer paper is called Follow Your Art.  Like the previous card, the epoxy heart was colored using the Blend Calypso Coral Dark maker.  Perfect for late night crafters!

Card 4: Scissors

The images for this card are all from the Crafting Forever stamp set.  The scissor looks just like our snips!  A small rhinestone was used on the pivot point.  We used the Scripty 3D embossing folder, this time on silver foil.  I like how it makes the script stand out.  For the Basic Black Cardstock, the Corrugated 3D embossing folder was used.

July Card Class "On the Farm"

Hope you are having a great summer!  Thought it would be a good time to take a trip to the farm.  We’ll be making cards that include animals you’d find on a farm-a pig, a dog, a cow and a rabbit.  Plus, a pick-up truck to transport them.  Recipes are included with each project and the supply details are listed at the end of this post.  Thanks for stopping by!

20190720 July class cards

Card 1: Hula Dancing Pig

This card uses a pig from the stamp set This Little Piggy.  The image originally included a flower, so I removed it by cutting around the rubber stamp.  We gave her an island touch by adding a frosted flower embellishment colored with a Stampin’ Blend Cherry Cobbler Dark marker.  The skirt is just a strip of granny apple green snipped like grass.  Then one of the most popular stamp sets from last year, Tropical Chic, was used for the sentiment and hibiscus flowers in the background.

20190720 Pig Hula card

Here is the recipe:

  • Stamp Sets: This Little Piggy, Tropical Chic
  • Granny Apple Green cardstock 8 1/2 x 5 1/2", 1/2 x 1 1/8’ for skirt
  • Real Red cardstock 2 1/2 x 4 1/4"
  • Basic Black cardstock 2 1/4 x 3"
  • Whisper White cardstock 2 x 2 3/4"
  • Frosted flower embellishment
  • Blends: Petal Pink Light and Dark, Granny Apple Green Light and Dark, Crumb Cake Light, Cherry Cobbler Dark
  • Ink Pads: Tuxedo Black Memento Ink, Real Red

Card 2: Dog Riding Pick-Up Truck

This pick-up truck was stamped on Granny Apple Green and cut out with snips.  The window of the truck was also cut out.  Then the truck was accented with Stampin’ Blends and the tires were colored black.  The hubcaps were made from silver foil by punching circles from it.  The sentiment and the dog were stamped on the whisper white background.  For easier placement, I put both stamps on the stamparatus.  To stamp the heart, a clear block was used.  Then I attached the cut-out truck using dimensionals.  This cute little dog looks so happy riding in the back of this truck!

July Card Class "On the Farm" Sneak Peek!

Happy 4th of July!  We have a farm theme this month.  You'll see cows, pigs, rabbits and trucks--all things you could find on a farm.  I also had the chance to go to the rodeo last month in Waimanalo, which started me thinking about the kinds of cards I wanted to create for class.  We will be using more of the cool and cute new products from the new annual catalog Here is a sneak peek of the projects.

June Card Class "New Friends"

Happy new Stampin’ Up! Catalog Year!  It was a busy June so I missed posting this before the month ended.  In June’s class we used a mix of old and new--a few critters with some florals too.  Recipes are included with each project and the supply details are listed at the end of this post.  Thanks for stopping by!

20190623 June cards

Card 1: Elephants and Balloons

Let’s start with the card that features “old friends”.  This pair of elephants is celebrating a special occasion with these bright Poppy Parade balloons.  All stamps used were from the Little Elephant stamp set and the shapes were punched using the Elephant Builder punch and Balloon Bouquet punch.

Card 2: Floral Impressions Panel Card

This card base uses one of the new In Colors – Purple Posy.  To create the panels, it was scored at 3 1/4” and 8 3/4” along the 11” edge.  Fold toward the center to create two panels—they are not uniform in size.  I wanted the larger panel to fit a 3 x 4” piece of designer series paper (DSP) to maximize the number of pieces I could cut from a single sheet.  And the DSP used is the beautiful new Perennial Essence DSP that is inspired by impressionist images.  The sentiment piece was attached with dimensionals only to the left side of the card.  The light colors of the flowers in the background on the whisper white cardstock were created by first stamping off.

20190623 Abstract images card

Here is the recipe:

  • Stamp Sets: Flourishing Phrases, Abstract Impressions
  • Purple Posy cardstock 4 1/4 x 11”, scored at 3 1/4” and 8 3/4"

  • Silver Foil 2 3/4 x 2”

  • Ink Pads: Tuxedo Black Memento Ink, Highland Heather, Petal Pink
  • Gingham Gala Adhesive Backed Sequins – Highland Heather

Card 3: Cow with Daisy

This card also features the Perennial Essence DSP.  This time it is paired with a cute cow from one of the new critter sets called Over the Moon.  Isn’t he adorable?  The daisy he is holding has some sparkle from Wink of Stella Clear.

This card features three images from the new Time for Tags hostess stamp set with the coordinating Timeless Label punch, also new.  The base is the new scalloped notecard, that comes in 4 colors—we used Terracotta Tile, Balmy Blue and Old Olive.  The 4th color that we didn’t use was light pink.  The scalloped notecards come in a pack of 20, 5 of each of the 4 colors with coordinating scalloped edge envelopes.  They are the same size as the regular notecards.  A great option for easily creating cards.
