May Card Class "Pretty Petals"

This month’s class was all about blooms!  We used many retiring products –available until June 3rd or while supplies last—to create 3 floral cards and one final appearance of that cute racoon made using the fox builder punch.  Recipes are included with each project and the supply details are listed at the end of this post.  Thanks for stopping by!

20190525 May Class Cards

Card 1: Wedding Floral

This card features the All My Love designer series paper and Better Together stamp set.  This simple layout works well with any designer series paper or sentiments that you may have.  I also used the Stamparatus to stamp the sentiment on the whisper white cardstock so that it was straight and centered.

20190525 Wedding Card

Here is the recipe:

  • Stamp Set: Better Together (retiring)
  • Lovely Lipstick cardstock 8 1/2 x 5 1/2" (retiring)
  • Whisper White cardstock 2 3/4 x 1 1/2"
  • Grapefruit Grove Foil 3 x 1 3/4”
  • Pear Pizzazz cardstock, Lovely Lipstick cardstock, and Grapefruit Grove foil for punched flower and leaves
  • All My Love designer series paper 4 x 3 1/4" and 4 x 2”
  • Bitty Blooms Punch Pack (retiring)
  • Early Espresso Classic Ink
  • Wink of Stella clear
  • Stamparatus

Card 2: Flower Panel Card

This card is scored at 2 1/8” from each end so that it folds towards the center and opens like a French door.  The flower and sentiment are attached with dimensionals only to the left side of the card.  The featured designer series paper is Happiness Blooms.

20190525 Floral Card

Here is the recipe:

  • Stamp Sets: Sunshine Sayings (retiring), Picture Perfect Birthday (retiring)
  • Calypso Coral cardstock 8 1/2 x 5 ½”, scored at 2 1/8” from each edge
  • Night of Navy cardstock 2 3/4 x 4 1/4"
  • Whisper White cardstock 2 1/2 x 4”
  • Happiness Blooms designer series paper 2 x 5 1/4" (retiring)
  • Calypso Coral, Call Me Clover, Night of Navy, Petal Pink Classic Ink
  • Basic Jewels Rhinestones

Card 3: Daisy with Pocket

This card also features the Happiness Blooms designer series paper.  The center is cut from the front piece using the Layering Circles framelits 2 5/8” circle size.  Then the underlying Call Me Clover cardstock can be seen.  A punched daisy and with 3/4” circle was attached to the center of the cutout circle.  This is also a pocket card, the cardstock base is 4 1/4” x 11” and scored at 4 1/4" and 9 1/4".  The 9 1/4" fold creates a 1 3/4” pocket.  I recommend using tear and tape to attach the pocket so that it is more secure.

20190525 Daisy Card

Here is the recipe:

  • Stamp Set: Itty Bitty Greetings
  • Call Me Clover cardstock 4 1/4 x 11", scored at 4 1/4” and 9 1/4"
  • Whisper White cardstock daisy, classic label
  • Night of Navy cardstock 3/4” circle
  • Whisper White cardstock 2 1/2 x 1 3/4”
  • Happiness Blooms designer series paper 4 x 4” and 4 x 1 1/2” (retiring)

  • 3/4" Circle Punch (retiring)
  • Daisy Punch
  • Classic Label Punch
  • Tear and Tape
  • Layering Circles framelits, 2 5/8” circle size
  • Big Shot

Card 4: Raccoon

Here is a cute raccoon card made using the Foxy Friends stamp set and Fox Builder punch, which are retiring.  We’ve made many cute things with these—foxes, girls with flippy hairdos, rabbits and of course raccoons.  The bow on the fox was made using the Cookie Cutter Builder punch.

April Card Class "Birthday Cheer"

This month’s class is all about birthdays.  We used a variety of stamp sets, designer series papers and other embellishments from both the Occasions and Annual Catalogs.  There are also a few items that have just been announced as retiring—so they are only available until June 3rd or while supplies last.  Recipes are included with each project and the supply details are listed at the end of this post.  Thanks for stopping by!

20190427 April class cards

Card 1: Birthday Topiaries

I’ve been wanting to use the Vertical Greetings stamp set in class for a while now, and it’s a good thing we did because it is retiring!  So is the Petal Burst embossing folder and velvet ribbon.  I cut each of the topiary stamps to separate the pot from the plant.  Then I could easily stamp the images using different color inks and position it with no problem using my Stamparatus.

20190427 Topiary card

Here is the recipe:

      • Stamp Set: Vertical Greetings (retiring)
      • Pear Pizazz cardstock 8 1/2 x 5 1/2"
      • Old Olive cardstock 2 1/8 x 5 1/2"
      • Very Vanilla 2 1/4 x 4”
      • Blackberry Bliss 2 1/2 x 4 1/4"
      • Rich Razzleberry cardstock for the small heart
      • Rich Razzleberry velvet ribbon (retiring)
      • Cookie Cutter Builder punch for the small heart (retiring)
      • Petal Burst textured embossing folder (retiring)
      • Old Olive and Early Espresso Classic Ink
      • Wink of Stella clear
      • Big Shot
      • Stamparatus

Card 2: Rabbit Birthday Flip

I realize that Easter has passed, but I couldn’t pass up using the retiring Cookie Cutter Builder Punch to make the cute Peeps inspired bunny one more time!  To make the bunny, punch the gingerbread cookie shape out of Pineapple Punch cardstock.  Trim the ears deeper in the center.  Then trim off the “arms” to round out the bunny’s face.  I used an espresso marker to draw in the face then edged the bunny with Wink of Stella clear to give it that sparkly look.

20190427 Peeps bunny flip card 20190427 Flip card open

The front of the card with the bunny on it flips out.  I learned this from stamping and quilting pal, Norine Oyasato, who learned it from a utube video by another demonstrator, Beth Rush.  To make the flipped portion you can follow the steps below or watch her video (Flip Flap Card by Beth’s Paper Cuts).

      1. Cut a piece of whisper white cardstock to 2” x 6 1/2". This will be used to cause the flipping action.
      2. Punch one end of the whisper white cardstock with the scalloped tag topper punch. On the opposite end, score at 2” and 2 1/2" from the edge.  Fold on the score marks so that the label side is on the bottom.
      3. On the 2” square section of the whisper white cardstock, stamp the message and image that will be inside the flip card.
      4. Using a piece of DSP cut at 5 1/4 x 4”, use the classic label punch to create a slit parallel to the 5 1/4” edge. Push the punch in as far as it will go, then punch.
      5. Thread the whisper white cardstock from step #3 through the slit so that the scallop top is the bottom layer and on the right. Arrange the whisper white cardstock so that the stamped image is showing on top along with the ½” scored section and the scalloped edge is sticking out from under the DSP enough to be a handle.
      6. Attach a strip of tear and tape to the whisper white cardstock in the ½” scored section. Peel away the top layer of the tape.  Make sure it’s still aligned as described in #5.
      7. Lay the early espresso 2 3/4" square on top of the whisper white so that the espresso square is centered on the DSP. The espresso square will stick to the whisper white cardstock because of the tear and tape.
      8. Attach the straight edge of the whisper white to the DSP layer Attach the DSP to the Coastal Cabana card base--be careful to only put adhesive on the back of the DSP and not on the whisper white cardstock.
      9. Now pull the scalloped edge and it flips open!

Here is the recipe:

      • Stamp Sets: Well Said, Bella and Friends (retiring)
      • Coastal Cabana cardstock 8 1/2 x 5 1/2" and 2 1/2 x 2 1/2"
      • Early Espresso cardstock 2 3/4 x 2 3/4"
      • Whisper White cardstock 2 x 6 1/2"
      • Granny Apple Green cardstock 3/4 x 2 1/2"
      • Pineapple Punch cardstock
      • How Sweet It Is designer series paper 5 1/4 x 4”
      • Early Espresso Classic Ink
      • Pineapple Punch, Granny Apple Green, Flirty Flamingo and Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends
      • Pumpkin Pie and Early Espresso Stampin’ Write markers
      • Cookie Cutter Builder Punch (retiring)
      • Wink of Stella clear
      • Tear and tape

Card 3: Floral with Pocket

This card features the Needle & Thread suite—stamp set, designer paper and framelits, plus the bitty blooms punch pack.  This card also has a pocket on the inside front that is made by folding over the card front at 2”.  It is easier to do if you score at 2” so that you have a nice crisp fold.  You can also create a notch for the pocket by punching a ½ circle on the edge of the pocket using the 1 ¼" circle punch.  I recommend using tear and tape to attach pocket so that it is more secure.

20190427 Floral Pocket card

Card 3: Sweet Treat Jars

This is a z-fold card that was inspired by Kim Williams, a wonderful Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator in PA.  We were lucky enough to have her visit Hawaii and share this card with us at our February Inspiration Night with Cindy Baughman (my awesome upline!) who is a close friend of hers.  You can check out Kim’s blog post dated 3/9/19 about the Z-card here.  Kim made hers oriented landscape, I just flipped mine and made it oriented portrait.  It looks complicated but once you make it you’ll find that you’ll want to make more!  Cindy was also an inspiration for this card because she made a swap with this DSP and jar cutouts--hers was oriented the same way as Kim’s.

20190316 Candy jars card-topview

I included some instructions here, but you can also follow Kim’s through the link above.

  1. Cut the cardstock base at 8 ½ by 5 ½” (Highland Heather).
  2. Along the 8 1/2” base, score the card at 2 1/8” and 4 1/4”.
  3. Fold the card in half, then fold the card front back at the 2 1/8” scoreline.
  4. Attach the DSP and cardstock to the card base as shown in the photo. You now have the card base completed.
  5. For the strip at the bottom, cut the cardstock at 1 ½ x 8 ½” (Highland Heather)
  6. Along the 8 1/2” base, score the card at 4 1/4” and 6 5/8” (or 2 1/8”).
  7. Stamp the long sentiment on the section that is 4 1/4” wide. Stamp the short sentiment on the section that is 2 1/8” wide.
  8. Fold the strip in half then fold it back on the 6 5/8” scoreline.
  9. Attach the strip portion with the 4 ¼” half to the 2 1/8” card base panel on left.
  10. Attach the other end of the strip that has the 2 1/8” scored piece to the bottom right half of the inside of the card base that is showing.
  11. Using the Jar of Sweets framelits, cut out 3 jars from the How Sweet it is DSP.
  12. Attach the jars using dimensionals. Note: For the large jar in the middle, only place dimensionals on the left side of the jar.
  13. Add Glitter enamel dots and embellish the jars and candy with wink of Stella. All done!

Here is the recipe:

  • Stamp Set: Sweetest Thing
  • Highland Heather cardstock 8 1/2 x 5 1/2", scored at 4 1/4 and 2 1/8
  • Highland Heather cardstock 8 1/2 x 1 1/2", scored at 4 1/4 and 2 1/8
  • Whisper White Cardstock 5 1/4 x 4”
  • How Sweet It Is DSP 2 x 4” and for the 3 candy jars
  • Jar of Sweets framelits
  • Big Shot
  • Glitter Enamel Dots
  • Ink: Tuxedo Black Memento Ink
  • Wink of Stella clear

Card 4: Gumballs

The gumball machine was cut out from the How Sweet It Is DSP by hand.  Unlike the jars in the previous card, there was no coordinating framelit.  The gumballs outside of the machine were punched from the same DSP using a standard handheld hole punch.  After assembling the card, the gumball machine and gumballs were embellished with Wink of Stella and Glitter Enamel Dots were also used.  TIP: For the 1 ½” circle in Lovely Lipstick under the sentiment, punch it from the Lovely Lipstick cardstock used for the background before adhering the striped DSP to it.  The punched hole is hidden on your final card and you will have made efficient use of your cardstock!

20190316 Gumball card

Here is the recipe:

  • Stamp Set: Sweetest Thing
  • Whisper White Cardstock 8 1/2 x 5 1/2" and 1 3/8” circle scallop
  • Lovely Lipstick cardstock 3 1/4 x 4 1/4", punch 1 ½” circle from the middle of this piece
